I’ve finished my shop!! Woyww 347

It’s so exciting…wait for it….”I’ve finished my French shop!!!”

I can honestly say that this project has been the most detailed one I have ever done.  When I first started it, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it as it was very ‘precise’ and I love to paint a bit more ‘random’ as my students know but it grew on me very quickly.

Yesterday I painted the fruit and veg crates, lights and doorway as well as stamped the shop signs. Even though I have painted for many years, I still learnt from this project, a design by Linda Lock.  I realised that sometimes you have to have very strong shadows and highlights to make something ‘pop’ which is very evident from the window blinds and crates.

The shop windows were a real experiment!  Linda used image transfer on her piece to add reflections in the glass, but as this can be hit and miss for me I didn’t want to risk ruining my piece.  Instead I used quality matt inkjet printing labels which I printed the reflected image onto and then adhered them to my windows…some more washes of black paint on top and….hey presto….it worked!

Finally, a sand with some medium sandpaper to pull through the texture paste I applied at the start and my piece was ready to sign.

I think my next project is going to be a bit more ‘free’ but this is a piece I will treasure and hang with pride!!

To take a look at more What’s on your Workdesk? Wednesday’s, pop over to Julia’s blog at the stamping Ground , it’s very inspiring to see what others have been up to 🙂

Til next time….

    • Thanks Julia, I can’t take all the credit, I was brainstorming with my evening class and one of my students, Susie, said it might work!

    • I’m so pleased I’ve done your design proud Linda. The windows worked a treat and took layers of paint over the top really well X
